This is a letter to the editor written by Steve Becker shown as it appeared in the Saint Peter Herald, the local paper here in St. Peter, MN. The letter is a request to the managing editor, Ed Lee to do something about the rising cost of beer in St. Peter.

Here's a news scoop for you: the skyrocketing price of beer.

An imbibing cohort and I were socked 10 bucks for a pitcher of MGD at a local establishment the other night. I thought it was a sick joke, but my cohort said that even the price of beer at the grocery stores has spiked 50 cents a case.

Geez, Ed, do something. Grab your sword and a pot of ink. I thought this issue was settled in 1774. You can't inflate a man's tea without civil unrest.
Every functioning adult should be jumping up and down like trolls on the 22 bridge throwing cases of beer in the river. All the ministers in town should denounce this outrage. Beer: the Guggenheim Foundation of First Resort, the fodder for brimstone sermons... Dear Lord, drop the price of beer and give us a reason to go to church.

Ed, I don't get out much anymore. I'm aged and infirmed with three kids. When the opportunity knocks, I want to puff up, blow a horn and bang on the kitchen pans. How is that possible with 10 dollar pitchers?

Your Thirsty Subscriber,
Steve (Becker)

(Managing editor¹s note: Upon cross examination, Mr. Becker issued a correction that he and his cohort had not purchased MGD. They actually purchased a pitcher of Honeyweiss, which we know to be a yuppy beer that costs more.)
