Patrick's Post Game Wrap - July 9th, 2008 Game SummaryPatrick’s attempt to avenge an earlier 16-9 loss to the BP Cleveland team Wednesday night failed as they fell by a score of 6-3. Only three Patrick’s players batted above .500 for the game; pitcher Gary Schmiesing (3 for 4), Sean Mulcahey (3 for 4) and on-base percentage leader Chaun Cox who went 2 for 3 and still found time to save the life of an injured player on an adjacent field. The real reason for the loss was not so much lack of hitting but rather lack of RBI’s (addressed under Key Stats). The team will look forward to next week, which marks the beginning of the post-season tournament and the return of power hitters Tom Lippert, who missed this week’s game, and future Patrick’s Hall of Famer and founding team member Steve Becker. While Becker has committed to hitting several home runs in his return, he was quoted as saying “I’m not chasing down my own homerun balls this year. I’m getting old.” Exorbitant demands by power hitters are nothing new to the Patrick’s ball team as Lippert continues to ask for bonus money for every home run he hits (which would have been a bargain had we known . . . ). It has been rumored that the team is willing to meet Becker’s demands and has reached an agreement that would allow Becker to rejoin the team, pending a physical and an assurance that his sister will be at the game. And now, for the part you’ve all been waiting for, the customary throwing of Rocket under the bus. Much like a good pennant race in August, Bill Arthur and Rob Moline are locked in a fierce battle to see who will end the season on the bottom of the statistics page. Both players made a strong case for themselves Wednesday night as neither player recorded a hit. As the post-season begins next week, the Patrick’s PGW will be sure to continue to track this developing story. Key StatsWhile Patrick’s played solid defense, their inability to drive in runs proved to be the difference in the game. This week’s Key Stats reveal that Patrick’s stranded an astounding 13 runners in the first 5 innings and failed to produce even one extra base hit the entire game.Back to Schedule |
