Patrick's Post Game Wrap -
July 2nd, 2008
Game Summary
It appeared that Patrick’s softball team
showed up for a bazooka fight with BB guns Wednesday night as they were
out-hit by the Flame Bar I team who scored 27 runs in 6 innings and went
on to defeat Patrick’s by a final score of 27-14.
The only real question in
this ball game was how long it would last before the mercy rule was
applied. In the bottom of the
fourth inning, Patrick’s had to rely on clutch hitting by on base
percentage leader Chaun Cox to drive in a second run and extend the game
another inning. Again in the
bottom of the fifth, Patrick’s was able to score just enough runs (3) to
extend the game into the sixth inning.
Patrick’s came back to score 6 runs in the bottom of the sixth
before a Tony Abrahamson fly ball to right center ended the game.
The “home run watch” continues for Tom Lippert as he has now gone 7
games without hitting a home run (he did go 3 for 4 with two doubles
however). The home runs
instead came from clean up batter Eric Madsen, his second of the year, and
lead off batter Steve Guimond, his first of the season.
Rob “Pipes” Moline made up for his lack of contributions on the field
(0 for 3) by once again providing material for the Post Game Wrap.
As the ball left the pitcher’s hand, Moline quickly took three
steps back to avoid being hit by the pitch.
However, the pitcher for Flame Bar can apparently throw a curve
ball with enough break to make Bert Blyleven proud as it was immediately
called a strike. It was
pointed out after the game that although Moline had purchased a cup at the
beginning of the season, he has still not figured out how to correctly
wear said equipment and thus he was not wearing it during the game and may
have jumped back in an effort to avoid potential injury.
Who’s Hot
Over the last two games . . .
Bill Arthur has reached safely in 6 out
of 7 at bats.
Steve Guimond is 6 for 9 with two doubles and a home run.
Who’s Not
Over the last two games . . .
Rob Moline is 1 for 7 with a strike out.
Tony
Abrahamson went 2 for 8 after starting the season red hot.
