Patrick's Post Game Wrap -
June 18th, 2008
Game Summary
Led by right center fielder Sean Mulcahey who went 3-3 at the plate, Patrick’s on third bounced back from last week’s losses to post a 13-6 victory over the Redmen/KRI team on Wednesday night. Team Captain and third baseman Rob Moline “let it all hang out” on Wednesday night, literally and figuratively when he showed up in a sleeveless jersey and shorts. Fans were treated to a “gun show” (more like BB guns than Bazookas) as Moline showed off the pipes and fish-belly white legs. Moline also let it all hang out on the base paths where he attempted to take an extra base by advancing from second to third. The throw was not in time but out of concern for his legs, Moline chose not to slide and forward momentum carried him past the bag where he was abruptly tagged out. Later, a fan pointed out that just the night before, a girl on her co-rec softball team was willing to slide with shorts on.
Another notable “non-slide” occurred when pitcher Gary Schmiesing was called out at second base on a play where it appeared that he would have been safe had he slid. When asked about it immediately following the play, Schmiesing explained that he is unable to achieve enough forward momentum to execute a “slide,” thus the resulting action would more closely resemble the act of sitting down.
Key Stat
Next week, Patrick’s (8-3) faces the Whiskey Bar/Bob’s Bail Bonds team that was 0-8 on the season two weeks ago (the last time the Recreation Department updated their standings – and you guys think I’m behind sometimes).
