Patrick's Post Game Wrap - June 4th, 2008

Game Summary
First of all, I want to acknowledge the fact that I let the readers of this weekly article down last week and I want to apologize for the content of last week’s Post Game Wrap.  People don’t tune in to the Jerry Springer Show to listen to intelligent people talk about their successes in life.  I believe the same concept applies to the Post Game Wrap in that people don’t click on this link for the “love fest” that was last week’s update.  You read this for two reasons: 1) You want to see your fellow teammates “thrown under the bus” and 2) You want to make sure that you don’t get thrown under the bus.  In this week’s addition, I will try to rectify this situation.

The Patrick’s team improved to 7-1 with a double header sweep of the Willy’s team with wins of 14-2 and 11-0, both in 4 innings.  Next week, Patrick’s will face a much tougher opponent in the Flame Bar II team in the final double header of the season.

Second basemen Bill Arthur appeared to have broken out of his offensive slump Wednesday night going 2 for 3 in the first game.  Arthur drove a line drive smash just over the outstretched glove of the second basemen which fell to the ground about five feet later.  While standing on first, Arthur was heard telling the first base coach “yep, I’ve got my swing back.”  While his offensive struggles have been well documented, we all know that in Bill’s own mind, he never lost his Mojo.

Eric Madsen took the mound for the second game of the double header and pitched a complete game shut-out.  Eric’s stellar performance, coupled with regular pitcher Gary Schmiesing’s second consecutive sub-par performance at the plate left Schmiesing searching for his Mojo.  New York Yankee’s first baseman Jason Giambi recently admitted that he was able to break out of his offensive slump by wearing a gold colored thong during his games.  Following the Patrick’s game, Gary mentioned that he too was contemplating this tactic.  While we certainly hope Gary can find his mojo, this statement conjures up images that are frankly too horrifying to consider.

After recently coming under criticism for not keeping his head in the play, utility player Rocketman Moline alertly took several extra bases this week while on the base paths.  Never one to be short on optimism, Moline after the game declared himself a “walking highlight film.”  After considering the amount of material that Moline has already contributed to the Post Game Wrap this season, admittedly it’s hard to argue with his point.  One cannot help but draw comparisons to Moline and certain professional sports figures who have cemented their legacies by making the news.  Names like Bill Buckner, Leon Lett, and Chris Weber come to mind . . .

All-Star Catcher and on-base percentage leader Chaun Cox did not play this week as he was busy delivering a baby.  At this week’s game, it became apparent that the Williamson’s will also be delivering a baby in the near future (Jamie’s involvement in the process was a little different than Chaun’s, but one could argue equally important).  Congratulations Jamie and Deb!

Key Stats
Patrick’s has outscored their opponents by a combined 119-52 this year.
