Patrick's Post Game Wrap - April 30th, 2008
Introduction
Hello and welcome to the first edition of the “Pat’s Post Game Wrap.” This brief accounting of the week’s game is intended to accomplish three purposes:
- Allow people who were not able to attend the game to keep up with the team.
- Preserve some of the rich history of the Patrick’s softball team.
- Provide a forum in which I can entertain myself while mocking the rest of you.
Game Summary
The bats started out slow this week as the team scored two runs in the first three innings. However, solid defense, particularly by third baseman Rob Moline kept the team in the game and in the 4th inning, the runs started to come. In the end, Patrick’s emerged with an opening day victory (13-5) over the Redman/KRI team.
The search is on for a power hitter to replace Steve Becker in the “Clean Up” role. Several players emerged this week as potential “power hitters.” Eric Madsen hit a pair of doubles and Gary Schmiesing recorded a double and a triple. Stay on the “juice” guys! Gary was later quoted as saying that “my triple would have been a home run for anyone else on the planet, other than myself or Rocket.”
Key Stats
Four out of the six extra base hits recorded in this game were hit by players over the age of 36. Two players also recorded strikeouts at the plate this week, both of which happen to have the last name of Schmiesing.
