TO: All persons interested in playing softball this summer.

FROM: Team Co-Captains Rob Moline and Mike Tollefson.

DATE: 4/20/95

SUBJECT: Preparations for the 1995 Softball Season.

Over the course of the winter several people have expressed an interest in getting a softball team together. Rob and I have taken the initiative to do some of the preseason planning necessary to coordinate a team for the St. Peter area. Hopefully this letter will bring everybody up to date with what is happening and save us a few phone calls.
We have enclosed a copy of the schedule and game times. The following is a tentative list of the people who have expressed interest in playing this summer. Please note that we have made every effort to mutilate the spellings on some of the names but we will eventually need correct names, addresses, and phone numbers for the St. Peter Softball Association.

Again, this is only a tentative list. Anybody who was listed as full-time and would like to be considered an alternate (or vice versa) should feel free to let us know.

We will count on the people listed as regular players to be at the games (including the first one). If you can't make it, be sure to let a Cocaptain know so we can contact a replacement. Please get to the game early (30 min at least for the first game) as there will be many things that need to be decided on and many out-of-shape muscles to be stretched.

GOOD NEWS/BAD NEWS
The bad news is that players fees are $10/person ($20/person if out of town) and the league fee for a team is $250. The good news is that we have obtained a sponsor. Patrick's on third (That's right, it's a bar!) has agreed to pay for our league fee! More on Patrick's later.

EQUIPMENT
We feel that it is imperative to always play with good equipment (Gunderson, get your mind out of the gutter). Part of the fees we pay will go toward paying for the game balls but we still could use some more bats. I have a 32 oz. middle weighted Easton but many of you may be more used to the end weighted
(Louisville Slugger TPS type). Let me know if anybody has anything.

LOOKING COOL
Patrick's has sponsored teams in the past and has a uniform design already that is black with white pin stripes and emerald (FH) green lettering. We have ordered 15 of them and have already assigned numbers. The numbers are 8 inches high which complies with ASA District-Region-State regulations. They also meet the most important requirement of any serious softball player...they look really cool.
The cost of the uniform is $40. However, Patrick's has offered to throw a party to raise enough money to pay for the uniforms! The party will be held on May 13 at Patrick's and a $5 charge at the door gets you a ticket to all the beer you can drink (from 4-10pm). We need about 250 people to make enough money to pay for the uniforms. Last year, Patrick's did the same thing for their two teams and made enough money to pay for the uniforms and had some left over to help go towards our individual player's fee. This is something we want to go over big so invite everybody you know (even Laaaaaaarrry Geoltz).
If it is conveinient for you, please let me know how many people you think you have convinced to come. It would help Rob and I and Patrick's better prepare for this bash if we could get a rough idea of how many people will be attending our little benefit.

RAIN DELAY
Rain outs for Patrick's (the team) will not be called until 5:00 pm. This may cause problems for those traveling long distances. Fortunately, Patrick's (the bar) has never reported a rain delay and thus, we do not expect inclement weather to delay any of our drinking activities.
In case our after game warm-down exercises (12 oz. curls) should go into extra innings, it should be noted that Patrick's is (as Jeff Feder so aptly put it), only "a half a stumble away" from my (Mike's) apartment and I do have enough floor space to hold a few ambitious exercisers.

WHY DID I GET A CONCESSIONS STAND SCHEDULE?
Yet another way that the St. Peter softball Association has devised to soak us for our money is to require us to pay a $50 deposit per team which can be recouped by working the concessions stand. We aren't exactly sure what this is going to entail but if we should call you to ask for help, this is what we're talking about.

PRACTICE
Do we need to hold a formal practice or are we going to rely on our sheer athletic ability and raw talent to get us through the first game? Thoughts anyone? If someone feels it is necessary, by all means take the initiative and set up an evening or whatever to call a practice. Otherwise, we will probably wing it for the first night.
It should be mentioned that we are signed up in the prestigious "D" League. I have never actually seen these teams play but I would assume that they are probably the Timberwolves of the St. Peter Softball Association. We will be strictly playing for fun this year but you should know that the top two teams in the league move up to C league the following year. Rob and I both feel that this team has the potential to come together like a good mixed drink and there are opportunities for us to play in a couple of tournaments this year if there is enough interest.

THE END
Hopefully, this has answered some of your questions. Rob and I have been anxiously awaiting the beginning of softball season since about March and we hope everyone else is excited about playing as well.

P.S. If anyone thinks I might have been a little hard on them in this letter...just wait till the season starts.
